Fashion Tweak! Precious Beast DIY Clutch

In my last post I was a pink bomb exploding among the blooming peach trees while carrying the most beautiful DIY clutch purse EVER MADE!!!  That's because I made it using fabric designed by artist Jackie Phillips of Precious Beast.  You can get your hands on some of her gorgeous fabric here!  Now let's get busy...

Step #1:  Cut out two pieces of fabric to the size you want your clutch.  Also get yourself a zipper!

Step #2:  Cut out and iron on the interfacing to each piece according to the directions.  I chose a very thick one to give my bag more structure.

Step #3:  Cut out two pieces of lining fabric to the size of the bag. I chose a hot pink silk!

Step #4:  Since my zipper was too short for the size I wanted my bag I had to make and attach some tabs to each end.  I watched this YouTube video to figure that out.  If you want to avoid this step and keep things simple, I suggest finding a zipper that is the right length!

Step #5:  Sew zipper to both pieces.

Step #6:  Sew up the sides (remembering to leave an opening at the bottom) and turn inside out!  Iron it and you're ready to rock!

Holiday Gift Guide: Books

I've rounded up a few of my favorite books for a special Gift Guide because, well, TURN OFF THE TV ALREADY!!!

1. Your Money or Your Life by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin:  This was the first book that ever really made me stop and think about money in a completely different way.  It will help you figure out how much money you ACTUALLY earn and make you re-think how you spend that money.

2. Candy Cocktails by Flannery Good & Katherine Good: I know, I know, shameless self-promotion here, but it is SERIOUSLY a fabulous book that would make an awesome gift for anyone who likes candy and cocktails!  And who doesn't fall into that category???

2. Wishcraft by Barbara Sher:  There are not enough words to explain how much I love Barbara Sher and her passion for helping people take action.  Seriously, if there's something you want to do but can't figure out how, you NEED this book!

4. Coach Yourself to Success by Talane Miedaner: Whenever I'm feeling like life is spinning out of control, or I need a way to get out of a funk, I always reach for this book.  I've given it as a gift more times than I can count!

5. 99 Problems but a Baby Ain't One by Megan Silianoff:  When my question was recently featured on The Lively Show, Megan reached out to me and we became fast friends!  Her fabulous memoir is all about her experience with cancer, adoption and her love for Jay-Z.  As a fellow mother and white girl who loves hip-hop, how could I resist???

Vivi's Second Birthday Fiesta!

My daughter Vivienne's first birthday party was all about balloons, 300 to be exact!  This year, for her second birthday, I wanted to do a fun, colorful fiesta theme.  The best part was picking out our matching Mexican dresses and decorating the house with piñatas!  We had the party catered by our favorite local Mexican restaurant and my mom made an amazing salted caramel cake and cupcakes.  I bought authentic papel picado from a local Mexican art museum, whipped up some homemade margaritas using my favorite Fashionably Bombed recipe and used zinnias to make flower arrangements for the tables!  All in all it was smashing good time!

Dresses:  Leo's Imports  //  Rainbow Donkey Piñatas: Target  //  Papel Picado: Arte Americas (Etsy also has good options)  //  Kitty Pants: H&M
